Joan Olsen Obituary

Joan Jacobsen Olsen

FRANKFORT -- Joan Jacobsen Olsen, 85, passed away Nov. 4, 2018.

Joanie was born in Flint, Mich., to Carl and Lila (Gorivan) Jacobsen.

Joanie attended Frankfort public schools, making lifelong friends, and in eighth grade was taught by her beloved Aunt Gladys Hejl. Joanie was a member of the queen's court, together with her dear friend and sister-in-law, Kristine Clark, participated in Frankfort centennial and sesquicentennial celebrations.

Joanie was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and thoughtful about the world and current events.

While living in Ann Arbor, she made many wonderful friends and was active in numerous volunteer organizations, including Meals on Wheels and the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop. Joanie enjoyed attending the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra concerts and the University of Michigan basketball games.

Joanie was the family anchor. She was kind and wise, and her family benefited from her love and "pearls of wisdom." Joanie and her late husband, Bill, were devoted to their family, hosting the annual family reunion, and the grandchildren continue her tradition of driving to the west end of Main Street, every time they visit Frankfort, to "check on Lake Michigan."

Her soulmate and husband of 67 years, Bill Olsen, passed away last year.

She is survived by her sons, William (Joanne) Olsen, David (Julie) Olsen; her daughter, Kristine (Daniel) Drake; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Kristine Olsen Clark.

Joanie will be deeply missed. A private celebration of her life will take place next summer. The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers at the Maples Benzie County Medical Care Facility and Munson Hospice.

For those who wish to make a memorial contribution, please consider the William R and Joan Olsen Endowment for the Friends of Betsie Valley Trail (www.gtrcf.org/give/our/funds.html/243) or the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (www.gtrlc.org ).

Dear Family of Joan Olsen
Although we are stink boaters we had fine
boating experiences with Joan and Bill in
Lake Michigan and Huron waters. A wonderful couple in all ways. They made good friends everywhere they were. They made this world a better place!
