JANET TURNER Memoriam

JANET MARYLYN TURNER January 18, 1932 ~ July 7, 2016 JANET MARYLYN TURNER was born January 18, 1932 and passed on July 7, 2016. She was much beloved, and as much an institution in Red Bluff as was Zuckwielers, the William B. Ide Adobe, and Clarke's Drug Store. She had many last names, and lived in four different homes, on Palermo Avenue, Kimball Road, Johnson Street, and Franzel Road. She was once a waitress at what was Burton's Coffee Shop at Main and Oak then became its bookkeeper. She was always a math whiz and parlayed her intelligence into degrees in Business Administration from Chico State, all while balancing a houseful of kids, some her own, others by marriage and friendship. Beginning as an administrator at the Cedars Convalescent Home, she rose to prominence in the nationwide Nursing Home Association, travelling the country as one of the industries main players. For a brief time, her duties forced a move to Columbus, Ohio. But Columbus, OH is no Red Bluff so she returned along with her husband Rudy Turner to the town she loved as her home. She touched the lives of many people in Red Bluff, one of the reasons her children were never able to convince her to move away. Her house, her friends, her 'fancy work', and the special town on the river was her home and that was that. She was known to discipline her kids using words like 'horsefeathers', 'fiddlesticks', 'baloneysauce' and, when necessary, pulling a wooden spoon out of the kitchen drawer. She is survived by four children Sandra, Larry, Tom and Jim and Lynn and Lorie, twin girls who spent many years in her care, Jim and Joe, whose lives where changed under her roof, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Janet loved the State Theater and would be happy to know of your contributions to Red Bluff's iconic concert hall and cinema.

I met Janet, when she worked for CARE Enterprises. She was well respected by her peers and the employees in the SNF facilities. I was the Regional Bookkeeper for southern CA, Utah, AZ and NM and often interacted with her when she came to the corporate offices. My condolences to her surviving family. RIP Janet.

I met Janet many years ago to conduct training under Care Enterprises. She must have sensed that I was a little nervous but she quickly put my nerves at ease. She was professional but very approachable. She asked me if I seen the movie Big, yes ! Tom Hanks of course. She told me that was her son and proudly showed me his pictures on her desk. That was over 25 years ago. My training was successful and I offered to come back to such a beautiful place and person.

I Met Janet many years ago when I first started working for Cedars Nursing and Convalescent in Red Bluff, My mom and dad lived down the street, so I would stop by and see Janet, we would sit on her front porch, hold hands and just sit and talk about nothing. She was the most kindest and caring person. I Loved her dearly. I Bought her a Pink Teddy Bear for Valentines Day 2015 and she just fell in love with it. You are one of our most brightest Angels Flying High. R.I.P. with Rudy Janet. I will never forget the Hugs and Kisses and our last day together in the E.R. Your Friend Forever and Always

Janet was our next door neighbor on Franzel Rd. Her son, Jimmy, played with our son, Brian. Janet and I were born in the same year, though I was one week older. We enjoyed sharing conversation as we drove to Oakland twice. Larry and I shared some rides to and from Shasta College. Janet was proud of all of her children and often spoke of Sandra. We were aware when Tom visited as our daughters peeked through our fence to see him as they thought him cute (and that was before you became famous, Tom. When I last spoke to Janet she was grieving Rudy's death. Janet was an outstanding person. Our condolences go out to each of you.

Celebrating your life Janet which you gave so easily to all that needed help and your kind of love. You were the best teacher I had, gave so much to me, I am forever grateful for the gifts you shared with me to serve and make a living at some thing I so enjoyed doing. Among all your skills and position held, you were the best boss I ever had. Remembering making rounds with you your cup of tea always makes me smile. Rest in peace my friend

Janet was a bright shining light in our community. It was an honor to watch her with the residents of Brentwood. She loved playing bingo with them and always made them feel special with a touch of her hand or a kind word. A Mothers love is the most precious gift that you can receive. It fills your heart to overflowing with kindness, compassion, joy and laughter. If you can find comfort in your mothers passing it is to know that she is now reaping the rewards of a life well lived. I know she has already earned her wings...and they are golden. Jessie Woods Gold Exchange

She was MY FRIEND, MY BOSS, and someone who meant a lot in my lifetime. She was the Administrator for Cedars Convalescent Hospital in Red Bluff, CA. She was also TOM HANKS MOMMY. Yes, the actor! We shared so many wonderful memories. She promoted me to a responsible position within the facility. She and I shared special memories of Christmas decorating, THE CAT! (who kept the patients happy, and her chair too) and the camping trip we shared on the Blue Goose Express for the American Lung Association. She was soooo special and would spend many hours visiting with her and Rudy at her home, and yakking over the phone. She was so Smart, So Kind, So generous. The World was a Better Place because she shared it with us. I will always be grateful that she shared time with me in my life. God Bless You Janet!

I remember seeing Janet at the State Theater fundraiser. We had a reception there and then went down to the Prime Cinemas Theater to watch Tom's new movie at that time: Larry Crowne.

She reminded me so much of my great aunts and grandma. Her Portuguese heritage was definitely evident! Tom had made a video clip for the reception. Janet was just beaming with pride. She arrived in a limo with the big lights going out in front of The Old State Theater.

It was an amazing evening. I am so glad we got to share it with her and so many old time Red Bluff and Tehama County residents. the event helped raise about significant funding for the restoration of the theater. Janet was a big inspiration for that giving.

Janet was my mother's first cousin but since both were only children, my mom always felt they were more like sisters. I was so blessed that my folks had Janet be my Godmother. I looked through all of the old photos and I see not just a so very highly intelligent and motivated angel of a woman; but also beautiful! Living always far across the state, Janet was out of sight but never either out of mind or heart. My mother was in awe of her as was I. She seemed to never have a reason not to succeed. She will not ever be replaced or replicated. My Godmother Janet was one of a kind. I loved her and I will surely miss her. Daniel Safreno
