John Dugan Obituary

Major John Dugan

Redding, CA

Major John "Johnny" Bernard Dugan (US Army, Ret.) passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016 in Redding, CA with his wife Jacqueline (Nelson) Dugan at his side.

Johnny was born April 8, 1952 in Sheldon, IA to Madonna and James Dugan. After moving to Santa Barbara in 1955 he attended Dolores Elementary, La Colina Jr. High, and Dos Pueblos High School, where he graduated with honors. While serving in the armed forces he earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School graduating magna cum laude and practiced in Los Angeles, CA prior to retirement.

During his Army career, Johnny was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, Vandenberg AFB, South Korea and Panama. He was awarded the rank of Major, serving with distinction.

Johnny was a gifted attorney with an eidetic memory and had a passion for politics, music and sports. While he accomplished many things in his life, he always said his son, Johnathan, was his greatest achievement.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; son, Jonathan; granddaughter, Mia; and siblings, William Dugan, Mary Dugan, Teresa Perez, Margaret Anderson, Madonna Hagedorn, and Alisa Dugan; and former wife, Rhonda Hensley; and many nieces and nephews.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, James and Madonna Dugan; and brothers, Michael, Stephen and Lawrence Dugan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at San Roque Catholic Church in Santa Barbara on June 16, 2016 with internment at Calvary Cemetery to follow. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
