Marian Gridley, age 89, was born at home in Cottonwood on December 6, 1928 and died at home in Cottonwood December 12, 2017. A Cottonwood girl through and through, she started school at Lone Tree School, graduated from Cottonwood Elementary, attended Anderson High and earned her GED and business degree from Shasta College. She clerked livestock sales at Shasta Livestock Auction Yard in Anderson and Cottonwood for many years and then had a great 20 year career with Farmers Home Administration in Red Bluff.

Marian loved her family and her community. She raised three active boys, provided a reliable taxi service to and from practices for them, and never missed a game or a performance. She was an avid fan of youth sports, 4-H leader, and a life member of the PTA. She was a key player in the passage of the 1957 Cottonwood School Bond which funded construction of the West Cottonwood School. Marian was also active in the Cottonwood Garden Club, Native Daughters, VFW Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, and the Anderson Senior Center. She loved to dance and was active in promoting senior dances in both Cottonwood and Anderson.

Marian married Vic Woolery in 1944 and they later founded Woolery Livestock Transportation. They divorced after 32 years and sometime thereafter Marian married Buck Gridley. She was widowed in 1995. She spent her last 22 years with her best friend and dance partner Dan Lock.

Marian is survived by her 3 sons: Vic (Jeannette), Dan (Laurie), and Jeff Woolery (Diane), 10 Grandchildren, 20 Greatgrandchildren, 5 Great-Greatgrandchildren, Dan Lock, her beloved dog Molly, and countless family members and friends.

Services will be Saturday, December 16th at 11AM at the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation is on Friday, December 15th, from 3-5 PM at Allen & Dahl's in Anderson. Contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital or Mercy Hospice.
