Orlan Compomizzo Obituary

Orlan (Compy) Compomizzo

Redding, CA

9/19/28 - 10/6/16

Went home to be with "The Lord" peacefully with his wife by his side at home at the age of 88.

He was a member of many organizations: Shriners and Masons were his favorites. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Redding Gun Club for many years.

He loved playing golf with his buddies, most recently at Lake Redding Golf Course where he was known as the man "the ducks followed." He always had food for them and especially loved feeding the mommy ducks on their nests. They would come when he called them and expected to be fed.

He was born in Hartford, Arkansas, the family moved to California during the Depression to Antioch, where he graduated from Antioch High and then went on to get his bachelors degree at Sacramento State in Engineering.

He joined Cal Trans at the age of 24 in Yuba City in 1953, and was Deputy Director of Right of Way in Redding from 1969 to his retirement in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Val and 4 children; Dennis (Jean), Judy (Doug DeMallie), David (Peggy) and Betty Meany. He had 8 grandchildren; Brandon, Justin (Rene), Eric, Greg, Dan (Lori), Matthew (Erin), Katlyn and Treven. One great grandson, Chase and a great granddaughter to be born in February.

He had 7 brothers and sisters, all preceeding him in death. He leaves many nieces and nephews, all who will miss him.

There will be a private family service at a later date.

He would like any donations made for him to go to Mercy Hospice, who made the last month of his life much easier and made it possible for him to remain at home.

We were saddened to hear about Compy. He was a special "hunting" buddy. And being in WA now--we miss a lot of news from Redding. Val, he was a special guy!

As the Golf Professional at Riverview, I remember the "Skinners" and all the fun Compy and Val brought to the group. I remember that Compy and Val were great members for the growth of Riverview for many years. You will be missed, Compy, by friends and fowl alike. Thanks for being great friends to the Thurman Family.
