James Odefey Obituary

James C. Odefey, 73, Red Oak, formerly of Dubuque, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak.
Jim was born Sept. 1, 1940, in Dubuque, the son of Herbert and Mabel (Brown) Odefey. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War with the 85th Evac., supporting the 82nd Airborne and 1st Cav. They established the first field hospital in Quinhon, South Vietnam.
Jim worked as a nurse anesthetist for 45 years until his retirement in 2010.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ron Odefey.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Odefey of Red Oak; a son, Chad (Misti) Odefey of Rainbow City, Ala. and their children, Nicholas, Andrew and Paige; a daughter, Shannon Marshall of Battle Creek, Mich. and her children, Demmy, Jalyn and Ethan; seven siblings, Mary Lou (Don) Schemmel, Bill (Barb) Odefey, Jan (Jerry) Deutmeyer, Jerry (Mary) Odefey, Donna (Jim) Hosier, Gary (Nancy) Odefey and Debbie (Jeff) Hurd; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
There was a parish wake service Friday, Aug. 15, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral Mass was Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Church of the Resurrection. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family.
