Janet Milner Weston Obituary

Janet L. Milner Weston, 80, Elliott, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Janet was born July 11, 1933, near Elliott, the daughter of Joseph and Frances "Elizabeth" (Smith) Thompson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1951 and attended Iowa Wesleyan at Mount Pleasant. While in college she played basketball and was named to AAU All American Team in 1952. In 1953 she played for the USA in the first World Championship Games in South America. Her team won the title of World Champions and received the Gold Medal. She was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Upon graduation, she earned her teaching degree. She taught school in Wall Lake and Lewis before substitute teaching in Elliott.
She married Donald Milner July 25, 1954, in Elliott. They lived in Grant before moving back to Elliott in 1963. Janet started working for Montgomery County National Bank in 1972 where she was the head bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1993, not long after her husband Don passed away in 1992.
Janet married William Weston July 8, 1995, in Elliott. They were married for 18 years when Bill preceded her in death in 2013. Janet loved gardening, camping and boating for many years. She was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ.
Preceding her in death were her parents; both husbands; brother, Glen Thompson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Thompson; and brothers-in-law, Larry Milner, Gary Buzick and Robert Crossland. Survivors include her children, Vicki Hansen of Kansas City, Brent Milner and wife Diane of Griswold, and Joel Milner and wife Melanie of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Jackie Ditsworth and husband Kevin of Bondurant, Andrea Milner of Chicago, Christopher Milner of Scottsdale, Sarah Peterson and husband Zach of Iowa City and Nicholas Milner of Ames; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brody Ditsworth and Victoria Milner; brothers, Jack Thompson of Red Oak and Jerry Thompson and wife Kathy of Ankeny; sisters, Jean Buzick of Webster City and Margaret Crossland of Allen, Texas; sisters-in-law, June Thompson of Phoenix, Dorothy Nelson and husband Russell "Swede" of Elliott, Mary Ann Reynolds and husband Lyle of Omaha and Darla Milner of Fairmont, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Gord Milner of Elliott and Dick Milner and wife Karen of Elliott; step-children, Sue Weston and husband Don Walztoni of River Falls, Wisc. and Roy Weston and wife Lona of Elliot; numerous nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Rev. Nate Delisle officiated. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Elliott Church of Christ.
