Stan Peterman Obituary

Stanley Edward Peterman, 61, Villisca, Iowa, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Josie Harper Hospice Residence in Omaha.

Stan was born Nov. 28, 1952, in Clarinda, the son of Jim and Florence (Gemmill) Peterman. He was raised on a farm north of Villisca, graduating from Villisca High School in 1971. After graduation, Stan started farming with his father.

He married Susan Honeyman March 14, 1976, in Villisca. They lived on a farm near Grant until the fall of 2013 when they purchased a home for retirement in Omaha. They lived there part-time while Stan continued to farm.

Stan enjoyed playing cards and hunting. He loved sports and especially attending his children's sporting and school events. His genuine respect and love for the land resulted in a successful farming career that he and his family were very proud of. He was a Farm Bureau member and served on the REC Board for many years. Stan and Susie enjoyed the last three years traveling to Texas in an RV they recently purchased.

Stan will be remembered for his ability to make long-lasting friendships, his willingness to help others when needed, and to never miss an opportunity to "double down on a hard 18." On July 12, 2014, Stan and his two new grandbabies, Drake and Evan, were baptized in a quiet service with immediate family in attendance at the Immanuel Hospital Chapel during his hospitalization. This was a very special time for Stan and the family.

Preceding Stan in death was his father, Jim Peterman.

Survivors include his mother, Florence Peterman of Atlantic; his wife, Susan Peterman of Villisca; a son, Adam Peterman and wife Holly of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Amber Sunderman and husband Philip of Villisca; three blessings that Stan called grandsons, Evan Peterman of Sioux Falls and Trenton and Drake Sunderman of Villisca; a sister, Beverly Schelling and husband Gaylord of Atlantic; a brother-in-law, Doug Honeyman and wife Diane of Seattle, Wash.; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Villisca Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sandra Wainwright-Rossander officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in Stan's memory. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
