Anthony Christiano Obituary

Anthony Christiano, MD
FALKLAND - Anthony Christiano, MD, 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 27, 2024.
Dr. Christiano, son of the late Anthony Joseph and Wilma Southard Christiano, was born in Pineville, West Virginia on July 3, 1960. He moved with his family to eastern North Carolina early in life and received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology from East Carolina University. He then completed medical school at Wake Forest University, residency in Internal Medicine, including a chief residency year, and a fellowship in cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While there, he received numerous accolades during both his residency and fellowship. While in Charleston, he met the love of his life and wife of 35 years Deborah Shady. In 1994, Tony and Debbie moved to Greenville where Tony worked as an interventional cardiologist until retiring in 2022.
Tony loved his Lord, his family, his friends, his patients, his country, and the outdoors. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Tony was an active member and deacon at Unity Free Will Baptist Church in Greenville where he served as an encourager and welcoming presence to all. Tony's servant's heart and generous spirit came to light not only in the church but also with his patients. Tony was passionate about giving his patients the best care possible and developing friendships with them. He knew and loved the community he served, rarely meeting a stranger. He was happiest when he was outside. Whether it be hunting, tending to his fig trees and grape vines, or taking a golf cart ride with Debbie and the girls, Tony loved being outside in God's creation. Tony was a true Renaissance man. He wore many hats and wore them all with excellence as his attention to detail and meticulous nature came to the forefront.
He is survived by his: wife, Deborah J. Christiano; daughters, Allison Christiano of Maryland and Natalie Christiano of Ohio; mother, Wilma Christiano of Washington, NC; sisters, Bambra Stokes and husband, David, and Cindy Christiano, all of Greenville; niece, Maryah Stokes; nephew, Christian Stokes, both of Greenville; and his parents-in-law, Maurice and Maxine Shady of Falkland.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Unity Church, Greenville, officiated by his pastor, Rev. Jeff Manning. The service will be livestreamed and available on the church's social media. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tony's honor may be made to Unity Free Will Baptist Church at 4301 Charles Blvd. Greenville, NC, 27858.

Dear Debbie, and girls. I am so very sorry for the loss of such a good man! I was a med school classmate of Tony's and he always was full of kindness, and laughter, and a source of such integrity throughout our years there. Wishing you peace in this difficult time. Brenda (McCain) Draper

So very sorry to hear this. Dr. Christiano took care of my husband some years back. They talked and joked at every visit. He was a great cardiologist and will be missed. Prayers for all of his family.

I met Dr. Christiano in early mid April February 2015 when my late husband was very ill. Very nice young man. Well mannered and knew how to explain the problem he had, which there was no cure. So husband and me listened to him as he did so. My husband passed away May 16, 2016. My husband was a great talker as well and liked him a lot. They will meet again in heaven and a great conversation will be had. I am sending my blessing and prayers to the family and friends.

I am very shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Anthony Christiano. Back in 2016 I had a health scare (I'm okay) and I personally sought out the BEST. Dr. Christiano came highly recommended. He was very kind, friendly, thorough, professional, great bedside manners, etc. I thought the world of him. He will be missed. Praying for his family and friends.

In 2010, I had a heart attack on a Friday night in September. The next morning I was in the new heart center and Christiano was doing my catherization. A month later to the day I had to have another one which he preformed. I found out I have coronary disease then. A vessel was twisted and cutting of my blood flow. I'm So glad I choose him as my Doctor. I sure have missed him the last 2yrs and will continue to miss him. Such a caring soul.
I'm so sorry for you and your girls. May God give you all the peace that surpasseth all understanding!

Tony was kind and sensitive and thoughtful, good qualities in a doctor--or in any human being. These qualities, which he so clearly possessed, would not seem remarkable to Tony, I think; they were what he expected of himself. He showed us what he was, with calm self-possession and with his beguiling humor. I found him remarkable.

He loved the outdoors, we're told. Well, the outdoors loved him too. Just as he was able, without effort, to show us his inner self, he was able also to show us the outdoors at its best. That's a gift. The quote that I'm reminded of is especially for Allison and Natalie:

"His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him that Nature might stand up and say to all the world, 'This was a man!'"

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
A great guy and a smart person. Haven't seen in a few years but will always remember the times we went to Trinity FWB and hunting together

I had the privilege of working under Dr. Chriatiano when the Heart Center was in the old building and then moved to the new building. He was a great mentor, educator and friend. I´m so shocked to hear he is no longer with us. You´ll be missed, my friend. Charlie Little, RN & I´m married to Charlie, Dr Chriatiano was my cardiologist, he was the best, funny, always listening to me, course he and Charlie at my appointment would talk about old times while I´m sitting on the exam table, I would say excuse me, did you all forget me, but he truly was the best, so sorry and saddened to hear he died! God bless your family!
