Charles Pender Obituary

WILLIAMSTON - Charles "Tate" Pender, 75, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville with Pastor Timothy Creel officiating.
Tate was the son of the late Charles and Madeline Bryant Pender. He was employed at Hoffer Flow Controls in Elizabeth City where he worked in Research and Development.
Tate was survived by his wife of 33 years, Diane Stalls Pender; daughters, Yvette Pender Lewis of Greenville and Pamela Pender Brinkley of Raleigh; brothers, Ernest J. Pender of Lexington S.C., and Frederick B. Pender of Grimesland; stepsons, Jamie Sullivan of Robersonville and James Sullivan of Williamston; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.
Tate served in the United States Air Force stationed in Tokyo, Japan and later became an East Carolina Graduate. He was an instructor at Martin Community College for 31 years. After leaving MCC, he began employment with Hoffer Controls Inc., where he worked until January, 2014.
Tate had a thirst for knowledge during his entire life and loved traveling with his family. There were many wonderful memories during those travels, most notably exploring the Scottish countryside, visiting castles in Ireland, and touring Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
With his passing, there is a void left in the heart of all his friends and family.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Biggs Funeral Home in Williamston.

I knew Tate when he was employed at Martin Community College. Tate was a joy to be around and if you weren't careful, he would slip a good joke on you. I pray that God will comfort all of you as you remember Tate with love.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Tate's family. I worked with Tate for a couple of
years in the Inspection Department. He had a tremendous amount of knowledge
of his work and he spoke often of his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He will
surely be missed.
