George King Obituary

George Leslie King Winterville - George Leslie King died November 5th 2023, surrounded by the love of family, holding the hands of his beloved wife, Kathleen and daughter, Leslie.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 4 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date in Ayden Cemetery.

George was born November 16th 1955 in Eastchester, New York. He lived there until the age of 14, when his mother, Carolyn, moved the two of them to his true home of Pitt County, North Carolina. He called himself a "transplanted southerner" but fit perfectly into the community here. After high school he worked at Procter & Gamble for over 25 years. There he found the love of his life, helping a coworker move out of her rental. Together their pride and joy became their children and grandchildren.

George would call himself a "secret service Christian" but if you were able to observe his deeds, you would see the love of God in action. His church home of Our Redeemer Lutheran is covered by his fingerprints from helping with every type of project and event. All of Pitt County is a better place because of his work with Basic Blowout summer camp, where he helped teams of young people repair homes, add ramps, and replace floors.

George brought this care for others to all his jobs, especially while teaching HVAC at Pitt Community College, and later working as an apartment maintenance supervisor.

George was welcomed into his eternal home by his precious and feisty mother Carolyn Cecila Dezendorf King, his father Cecil Preston King, as well as his loving mother-in-law Alberta, and brother-in-law Steven.

George is survived by his wife Kathleen Ellen Snyder; his three children Joseph Eric King, Leslie Emma King, and Michael Snyder King; his bonus children Kristen Bolton King, Stephanie Paige King, and Prudencio IV Martinez Mengel; his grandchildren Riker, Zak, Ione, Parker and Charlotte (who is on the way); his cousin Richard Heins, his brother Cecil B King and their families.

Hello everyone. George and I we're friends since we were probably four or five. We attended in Hutchinson high School in eastchester and used to walk home together to George's house where his mom would prepare a snack for us and we would play all afternoon, I lived diagonally a block away and I could cut through the yards, making it easy to always go over and see my best friend. The 60s was a great time to grow up and George's cousins live down at the bottom of Tuckahoe avenue, where sometimes all the family would meet and we'd have fun and play games outside. The girl scout cabin was only about 500 yards away from his cousins, at the bottom of the hill. I have so many very fond memories of breaking sticks in little pieces, and making believe they were boats, and floating them down the stream there, we were in third grade. I have pictures taken with a Kodak instamatic camera, of George and I in our snow suits on his front porch when we were probably about 5... I have so many pleasant memories of my childhood with my dear friend George and there are way too many to even explain here. I just tonight heard of his passing through his daughter Leslie, and it's bringing tears... We lost contact over the years as many people do, but through the internet we found each other again, and we're always going to talk on the phone, but George said it would take days.. I agreed. I'll miss you dear friend, but rest assured I will be sharing memories with your family. Heaven has received another angel. We will meet again... You hold the record for longest and oldest of friends, I'll always love you George, rest now. John Hemberger
