AYDEN - Doctor Glenn Bowen Jr., 80, of Ayden, passed away on September 7, 2017 at Vidant Hospice with his family by his side. Glenn was born on July 1, 1937 in Pitt County, NC to Doctor Glenn Bowen Sr. and Edith McLawhorn Bowen. Glenn was a longtime member of St. Delight FWB Church, and his faith was the foundation on which he built his life - a life dedicated to caring for his family, bettering his community and exemplifying leadership and excellence in his professional endeavors.

Glenn served in the U.S. Navy before returning to Pitt County to begin his almost seven-decade career in business, with the opening of Glenn's Gun Shop in 1960. Among other businesses, Glenn was an original founder of B & G Guns in Ayden, Doc's Pawn & Guns in Greenville and Colt's Gun Shop in Winterville. As he built these businesses, Glenn gained notoriety as a national expert in the firearm industry, often advising on the purchase, repair and appraisal of firearms. Glenn's leadership also extended to his efforts to improve his community through his service as Pitt County Commissioner, on the Board of Directors of the Ayden Collard Festival and the Ayden Chamber of Commerce, and through his membership in the Grifton Masonic Lodge and the Pitt Co. Shrine Club.

Glenn will be remembered by his family as a loving and dedicated family man. He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Marie Murphy. He is survived by his loving wife, Margie Haddock Bowen, of the home; three daughters, Tammy Bowen and Mark Case, of Ayden, Patty Richardson and husband, Roy, of Ayden and Karen Oakley, of Ayden. He also leaves behind two sisters, Susan Moore, of Winterville and Ann Faulkner, of Ayden; five grandchildren, J.B. Oakley and wife, Tiffany, Colt Page and wife, Keehln, Josh Richardson and wife, Brittany, Lindsey Richardson and Susan Adams and husband, Josh; Great-Grandchildren, Eli, Ava, Liza and Jed Oakley, Ella-James and Jack Page and Faith and Charlotte Adams.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 3:00pm at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden. Burial will follow in the Ayden Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Patty Richardson.
