Jack Tyler Obituary

Jack L. Tyler Sr.
WEST JEFFERSON - Jack Loyd Tyler, Sr., age 97, passed away peacefully at his home in West Jefferson NC on Friday, September 26, 2025. Born in McCall, South Carolina, on November 5, 1927, Jack was the beloved son of the late Walter Jackson and Rosa Jane Evans Tyler. He was preceded in death by his brother Billy Tyler and sisters Mildred Harmon and Eunice Harrison. Jack served his country with honor in the US Marine Corps before dedicating many decades to his profession as a pharmacist in Greenville, North Carolina. Throughout his career he worked with Pavillion Pharmacy, Big Value Drug, Hollowell's Drug Store, and Kerr Drug, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues and customers alike. He spent many years as a leader in the Greenville Community Bible Study, an organization and fellowship he deeply loved, and he remained close to the men he served there. He was also a longtime member of Oakmont Baptist Church in Greenville, where he made countless dear friends before moving to the mountains. More recently, he cherished worshiping with his friends at The Gathering Church in West Jefferson. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cole Tyler; sons Reid Tyler of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, Gerald Tyler of Tustin, California, and Loyd Tyler of West Jefferson, North Carolina; daughter Christy Gross of Ayden, North Carolina; and brother Walter Tyler. His legacy continues through four grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews who will remember his gentle wisdom and steady kindness. Graveside services celebrating Jack's life will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 2:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Scott Day officiating. A public visitation will follow the graveside service at The Gathering Church.
