Jerry McLawhorn Obituary

Jerry L. McLawhorn Mr. Jerry Linwood McLawhorn, 75, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mr. McLawhorn was a native and lifelong resident of Pitt County. He was employed for 31 years with Greenville Fire-Rescue, retiring as captain. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lila Smith McLawhorn; daughters, Wendy M. Tucker of Greenville and Patricia M. Elks and her husband, Wayne, of Greenville; son, Michael T. Grimsley of Greenville; grandchildren, Shane Grimsley and his wife, Crystal, Ramona and Sam Gee, Jennifer Smith, Preston Elks, David Tucker, Carrie Elks, and Michael Grimsley III; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian White and Enes Hathaway and her husband, Kenneth, all of Greenville; sister-in-law, Mary Lou McLawhorn of Kinston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Christian Church, 1726 Staton House Road, Greenville, NC 27834. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com.

Ms. Lila, Please accept my deepest condolences. Jerry was a good friend to me from the first day I started at GPD. He and my Dad were in the Legion together and Jerry and I shared many a laugh talking about his and my memories of my father. I will miss our chats. God bless you and your family.

I was so sad to read of the lost of Jerry. He and I were members of the Moose Lodge and served as officers. He helped me so much during my term as Governor. He was a good man and will be missed by all.
