Jerry and I played and jammed in a band in around1973 - 1976. He was a great multi-instrumentalist and singer, and a true leader. There was never any question about who the band leader was, it was Jerry. I saw many a sunrise with Jerry and will always cherish the many, many times we played music together. RIP my friend.

Jerry was my brother's (Stuart) best friend. Everytime Stuart would call me from Jerry's house, he would put Jerry on the phone and we would talk. I could just picture his beautiful smile and the sparkle in his eyes. Jerry will truly be missed by everyone but we all know that he is jamming in heaven. I can picture my mom, which just passed away last week sitting in a chair with her foot swaying with the music. She loved Jerry so much!!!!!

I work with his sister, Lisa, who invited me to the most recent concert at Deadwood. It was very emotional; you could feel the love in the room for J.T. I wish I could have gotten to know him. Keep his legacy and music alive!

Jerry Thomas...leader and patient teacher...I always thought he could take a group of any four or five people and have them playing the blues in about twenty minutes...I remember once he stuck a bass in my hands and told me three notes to play and away we went...what a great talent...we all admired and loved him...

My dear cousins and Aunt Virginia, Our family will not be the same without Jerry. We all loved him and we all will miss him. At every family function, Jerry always had jokes for us. Jerry made everyone feel good. What a gift he gave to all, what a gift he was to us. We have our memories, our pictures and videos, but Jerry will be truly missed.

My prayers are with the family during this time of grief. I feel so priviledged to have known such a musical legend. I'll always cherish those multitude of hours I spent watching and listening to Jerry play when I was growing up. Heaven got a good man last week!

I got to know Jerry last year at the reunion. I was jammin late night at Roddy's camp site and Jerry popped up out of the night and said: Mind if I join in. We jammed and talked and laughed for hours. He was a great musician and a good soul.

I was in total shock to hear about our wonderful brother. I just saw him at our Reunion and he looked so good. He always came by my mom's restaurant "Clark's Downeast" and he had just asked me about how she was doing, not knowing that she had passed away. I got a wonderful hug from him and it was so good to see him as it had been awhile. I've always admired his musical talents and the joy he had in sharing it with his children, in which they were just great musicans as well. He enlighted so many hearts with his talents and also his warm personality. He will truely be missed and I thank God I did get to see him last week. He is one of the most touching musicans I have ever encountered and I will surely miss hearing his music. Luv ya forever Jerry~!

To all of Jerry's family - Jerry will always remain a bright spot in my memory. I most recently saw him on Memorial Day weekend, 2006. He looked content and I was thrilled to spend a few moments hugging his neck and catching up. I can remember every time I heard him play music, like it was yesterday. Rock on, Jerry! My heart aches for those closest to him as you mend this huge hole in your heart. In time, I hope the ache in your heart is replaced with the peace of knowing that Jerry lives on in you - April, Scott and Matt.
Peace and Love,

Time doesn't erase memories, it etches them deeper into your soul. Even though my days of hanging out downtown Greenville seems let a lifetime ago, the memories I have of JT on the stage doing what he loved best are times I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He had a special talent with music as well as with his family and friends. He was a very likable person and he will be truly missed in Eastern North Carolina. My deepest heart felt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family.

Jerry was an artiste! He wielded a 40,000 lb. paintbrush and his canvases are scattered all across the Downeast woodlands.
I'll never forget the bands version of "One Way Out". It simply was the best, ever, period, end of story.
