Joyce Worthington Obituary

Joyce Lee Jackson Worthington

Mrs. Joyce Lee Jackson Worthington, 74, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Vidant Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Born and raised in Greenville, Joyce graduated from Winterville High School and attained two master's degrees from East Carolina University. Joyce was an excellent educator who encouraged and enlightened many students in her tenure with Pitt County Schools. She rarely ventured out without running into former students who fondly remembered her from her teaching years.

Joyce was an active member of Red Oak Christian Church, and was well known for her creativity and ability to craft and create the most beautiful arrangements for any occasion. She was a devoted daughter, loving mother, doting grandmother, and selflessly served as a loving caregiver to many elders in her family. Joyce was a beautiful and special soul who will be missed by so many.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Cornelious and Bertha Mae Jackson; and her husband, William Kent Worthington.

She is survived by her: son, Michael Lee Worthington and wife, Jennifer, of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Kimberly Worthington Woolard of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Shylah Taylor Woolard, Madison Taylor Worthington, and Jaxon Colie Worthington; brothers, Charles Winston Jackson of Farmville, NC; John Ray Jackson and wife, Abby, of Jacksonville, NC; and William Alan Jackson of Greenville, NC.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Red Oak Christian Church, 1827 Greenville Blvd. SW, Greenville, NC 27834.
