Lillian Mitchell Obituary

Lillian Harrison Mitchell

GREENVILLE - Lillian Harrison Mitchell, 89, of Greenville, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Lillian was born February 15, 1929, in Greene County to the late Eugene Harrison and Nannie Holloman Harrison. Her husband of 63 years, Harold Jennings Mitchell, preceded her in death on July 25, 2011.

Life for Lillian revolved around her family. Their well-being and happiness were of paramount importance to her. Devoted and always present, Lillian loved her role as matriarch of the family. She was protective, quick to defend her family, and was like a second mother to her siblings. Lillian was a woman of strong values and morals. She always did her part and strived to be a strong example for her family. Lillian personified a Proverbs 31 woman.

Always on the go, Lillian loved to travel. If her family was involved, Lillian was present. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved the soothing sound of good country music. Her family has many fond memories of gatherings around her table. No one prepared better fried chicken and collards.

A service to celebrate and honor Lillian's life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2018, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Lillian is survived by two children, Sue Nethercutt and husband, Harvey, and Harold Jennings Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Mary; four grandchildren, Beth Riley and husband, Jefferson, Kate Cullifer, Meggie Mitchell and Miles Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Lily Riley and Cooper Riley; four siblings, Ellen Harrison and husband, Joseph, Nancy Grant and husband, Linwood, Jack Harrison and wife, Myrtle, and Dennis Harrison and wife, Debbie. In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Harold Jennings Mitchell, III and William Thomas Mitchell; brother, Hilton Maurice Harrison, Sr., brother-in-law, Donald N. Crawford, Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Myde Harrison.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials may be made to Service League Of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, c/o PCMH Foundation, P.O. Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.

Lillian, I am so thankful for the sweet things, kind words, and good times that you added to all of our lives. I feel fortunate and grateful to have had you for a grandmother to my children and to have known you and your husband, Harold J. Mitchel. Rest now in the peaceful, loving arms of our Lord Jesus.
