Mary Beckman Obituary

FAIRFAX, CALIF. - Mary Elizabeth Beckman, beloved daughter and sister, died Friday, May 14, 2010. Having lived the past 12 years in California, she was a former resident of Farmville.
Mary Elizabeth was the daughter of Ann Hardy Beckman and the late Ed Beckman.
Surviving are her sister, Cynthia and brother, Jesse.
Mary Elizabeth was a graduate of Arendell Parrot Academy and Salem College where she received a music scholarship. She was Pitt County's first Junior Miss and a 1988 North Carolina debutant. After moving to Atlanta she worked with PR News wire and transferred to San Francisco where she was one of their top sales person.
Believing that music is the universal language, Mary Elizabeth lived this belief through music, singing, and song writing. As an independent singer-songwriter with an incredible voice, she liked to hike with her guitar. Generous, loving, beautiful, and angelic she had a graciousness about her.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Farmville Presbyterian Church in Farmville by the Rev. Rocky Stone. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Farmville Presbyterian Church, 4138 Grimmersburg Street, are appreciated.

I am so sad to hear about Mary Elizabeth's death. I have more fond memories of growing up, playing violin with her, than I can name! My prayers are with all of you.

My heart goes out to Mary Elizabeth's family and friends. As the woman who found her I-phone and keys at the harbor in Sausalito, I was so sad to hear of her early death. My deepest condolences.

Dear Ann,
I am Cappi's brother; Kerry. I had the honor of being inside their circle of freinds for many years. The last time I saw Mary Elizabeth ("M.E". as we always called her) she said something to me, I have never forgotten. She said "Remember Kerry, You are always much more than 'just' Cappi's Brother". Your time to 'shine' will come along.
She was an inspiration and I always loved hearing about her through Cappi and other mutual friends. Surely she is at peace and will always be in our hearts and prayers. Our loss is Heaven's gain in such beautiful person, musical talent and just wonderful soul to all who knew her.
My sincerest condolences.

Dear sweet Beckman family,
I am devastated by this news and could not believe it as someone pulled me aside to tell me yesterday. ME was a beautiful soul inside and out and I am so sorry for your loss. I will always recall our amazing trip to New York together as well as so many times we shared. She will be missed and remembered with great fondness!

Mary Elizabeth was my first love and I never stopped loving her. This hurts as much now as it could have 24 years ago. She was just so special and I know God will care for her soul( BILLY)

Miss Ann, Cindy and Jesse,

Joseph reminded me of these beautiful lines delivered by Robert Duvall as an impromptu eulogy in the movie "Broken Trail".

"we are all travelers in this world ~
from the sweetgrass to the packing house ~
from birth til death ~
... we travel between the eternities."

Let the many sweet memories help you find peace in your heart. We are a just a phone call away.

I have so many fond memories of Mary Elizabeth. We both moved to San Francisco around the same time and spent lots of weekends together. Always sunny and sweet–she will be missed.

It was with great sadness I learned of the passing away of Mary Elizabeth Beckman earlier this week. I will always remember Mary's infectious smile and the skill by which she played her violin. I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her but I am certain the heavens have gained a truly gifted and talented angel. May God comfort your family during this difficult time and may your memory live on forever for those who were so richly blessed by knowing you.

I will never forget the many miles we swam, rode our bikes, and paced up and down the entrance to Camp Kanata waiting for our moms to pick us up that Saturday morning in 1977! May God Bless and keep you, my beautiful childhood friend...

Mary Elizabeth was a good friend and colleague of many years. I will miss her bright smile, golden voice, and wonderful sense of humor. She was a gift to all who had the good fortune to know her, and she was loved by all of us. Heaven has gained an angel.
