Mrs. Mary Harris Whichard, 84, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 3:30 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel with Revs. David Butts, Connie Newton and Raymond Potter officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Whichard, daughter of the late Spencer and Gladys White Harris, was a native of Winterville. She lived most of her life in Greenville and returned to Winterville in 1991. She worked as a bookkeeper for Garner-Wynne-Manning and later for Pitt County Schools retiring after 25 years of service in 1993.

Mrs. Whichard attended St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as the church secretary for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Ray Harris; and a sister, Beatrice Tucker Curry.

She is survived by her: husband of 66 years, Linwood E. Whichard; daughter, Debbie Whichard and fiance;, Scott E. Southerland, of Winterville; and grandsons, Nathan and Kyle Ostrander.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home on Thomas Langston Road.
