Norman Carl Hardee
MCLEAN, VA. - Norman Carl Hardee, 78 of McLean, VA passed away on June 18, 2016 at Fairfax Hospital, Annandale, VA.
He was born on November 28, 1937 in Greenville, NC where he lived until 1958 when he moved to Newport News, VA and became a department manager at Sears. In 1965, he started working at Fass Brothers Seafood and later started Fass Bros. Seafood House restaurants and expanded this into a chain with locations in VA and NC. He left Newport News in 1974 to start Chesapeake Bay Seafood House Restaurants which he and his three partners expanded to locations in VA and MD. He and his partners later secured the franchise for Chili's and have opened over 30 restaurants in VA, MD and WV. Throughout his career, he opened over 100 restaurants. Chesapeake Bay Associates also owns and operates Chesapeake Bay Packing, a seafood processing plant in Newport News, VA.
In addition to business involvements, as a young man, he was an active member of the Hampton Roads Jaycees, served as a director at Bryce Resort and is a director at An Achievable Dream, schools for at risk children in Newport News. He is a member of the Tucker's Point Resort Club in Bermuda where he enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by Linda Mahanes Hardee, his wife of 50 years; a daughter, Lorianne Hardee of Reston, VA; two sons, Norman Christopher Hardee and Joseph William Hardee of Washington, DC. He has 11 grandchildren: Robert Carl Wiscarson, Shannon Shults and Toni Wright of Yorktown, VA, Megan Lynn and Sarah Anne Nibley of Reston, VA, Dallas Marie, Christopher James, William Carl and Susanna Lynn Hardee of Washington, DC and Aksel Wilson and Ivona Asher Henley-Hardee of Washington, DC. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and a brother, Hugh T. Hardee, Jr. of Grenville, NC. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilouise Wiscarson of Hampton, VA and a brother, Morris Eugene Hardee of Greenville, NC.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 1:00pm at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA with burial at Fairfax Memorial Park. A reception will be held following the services at J. Gilbert's Restaurant on Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA.
