Jane,
I was sorry to hear about Wilbure. As you know, I taught in the room beside him at Aycock. He was the one who kept Suzanne and I sane.
Most of all I will remember his wonderful sense of humor, funny stories, but how supportive he was of his fellow teachers.
He will be missewd by all.

Mr Bennett is truly loved by anyone who knew him. He was a GREAT teacher as well as man! My heart goes out to his family. He was my favorite teacher in 1989. And everytime I have seen him since he would say something to make me smile and always remember who I was which always seems to amazed me out all the students he has had.

Dear Jane, John, Irving and family,

Patti and I continue to keep you in our prayers and thoughts. Wilbur was a great guy and a wonderful Uncle. Our lives were enriched because of him. He was a gentle, articulate and compassionate man. Wilbur also had a dry sense of humour and cherished life. You have a lot to be proud of. I know we will all miss him but he is no longer suffering and at peace with God. If you need someone to talk to please don't hesitate to call us.

Sincerely,
Jim, Patti & BB(our lab)

Dear John, my mama just told me the news this morning (I live in Indiana now). I am so sorry to hear about your dad, John. My mom, sister and I all just really thought the world of Mr. Bennett, and I have such special memories of him and the times we had, and when he was my science teacher, and listening to him play the clarinet! He was a fun guy and always had an interesting story! I know this is a difficult time right now (I just lost my dad in May), so please know that you, Irving, Miss Jane, and all of your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Love from our family to yours ~

For years I saw Wilbur regularly at a local gym and always looked forward to the discussions we'd have there - religion, politics, current events, education, health topics, sports, his experiences in Europe. Never a dull conversation with him. My condolences to the family -- he'll be much missed. A true original.
