Constance Stockton Obituary

GALESBURG - Constance Faye Stockton, 66, of Galesburg passed away May 18, 2012 at Seminary Manor.
The crack of a bat put an instant smile on Connie's face. Spring to fall, the daily baseball schedule was readily recited. Allowing that it is possible to watch too many baseball games was not in her thoughts. Life at times seemed to take on the unhurried pace of an afternoon doubleheader.
Born on July 11, 1945, in Rock Island, Ill., to Thomas and Virginia (Stout) Stockton, Connie lived most of her life in Knoxville, where she graduated from high school in 1963.
Early on, Connie was employed at Orion Flower Shop but spent most of her working days at Knox County Nursing Home, where she served as a certified nurse's aide for more than 20 years.
A quiet observer of those around her, Connie spent a lifetime helping other, whether babysitting for her little sister, caring for those that needed assistance in the nursing home or watching her nieces and nephew. In later years, she provided loving support for her parents and other family members and friends.
An avid baseball fan, Connie delighted in watching her Cubbies especially, attending spring training games as a child and young adult. For years, her weekly schedule included swim sessions where she loved being in the water while enjoying the company of others. An invitation to eat out was rarely turned down. She found enjoyment in vacations and gatherings with family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her sister, Jacqueline (Robert) Miener of Galesburg; nieces, Ashley (B.Tyler) Philippi of Brookfield Ill.; Lindsey (Joseph) Beumer of Eden Prairie, Minn.; nephew, Nicholas Miener, of Bellingham, Wash.; and one great nephew.
On Tuesday, July 3, 2012, graveside services officiated by the Rev. James Ecklund will be held at 10 a.m. in Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, with a Celebration of Life and luncheon to follow at 11 a.m. at Soangetaha Country Club, Galesburg.
Memorials can be made to the Galesburg Hawthorne Pool Fund or Chicago Cubs Charities. Online condolences and sympathy cards can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
