James Kimbrough Obituary
He was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Galesburg, to Sylvester and Addie Moore Kimbrough. He married Nancy Ewing on Sept. 30, 1956, in Galesburg. She preceded James in death on Jan. 9, 2007.
James is survived by a son, James D. Kimbrough Jr. of Galesburg; a daughter, Harriet E. (and Isaiah) Thomas of Moline; a brother-in-law, James Holloway of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Rosalyn Tubbs of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five nieces and nephews, Anthony, Walter, Terry, Troy and Chris; 11 grandchildren, Jamie, Jammie, Jeaniese, Meisha, Dereka, Lawrence, Shamonta, Katrel, Adrian, Pam and Chris; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Kimbrough; a daughter, Carla Williams; and two sisters, Margaret Settle and Anna Holloway.
He worked for Butler Manufacturing for 40 years, retiring in 1993.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Galesburg.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved the LA Dodgers. He loved and cherished his family and his best friend, Horace Coleman.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Tyson Parks officiating. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in the East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, where military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Honor Squad. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.

Such wonderful stories we shared over time. I'm thankful that Cousin James Donald would share part of his family stories, and helped me with my own research. To a man of wisdom, gratitude, kindness, and great patience.
I miss you Cousin Lil Heck. To be once again gathered together with family that has gone on ahead of you. What a blessing. Until we meet.

So very sorry to learn of the passing of Uncle James. As a child and later years to visit with him and Aunt Nancy was always a pleasure. He was an excellent cook and always jovial. I will cherish the pleasant memories of spending summers and holidays with him, Aunt Nancy, Jamie, Mickey, Carla and Troy Ewing. My prayers and thoughts are with.

Sorry for your loss. we know Mr Kimbrough is in a better place. No more pain no more sorrow. He is at peace...Thank u Jesus...His generation was my parents.His sister Sally was my Aunt Dorothy Pates best friend...so it seems i have known him forever...God is merciful and He looked down on His creation seen He was tired and said come on home...Believe that Jesus is at work...He will comfort you at this time and forever...Love to the family..DeVora
