Marsha Damos Obituary

NORTH HENDERSON - Marsha F. Damos, 57, North Henderson, completed her life at 10:36 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born Sept. 28, 1954, in Peoria, the daughter of John and Marjorie (Shaw) McDonough.
She was raised and educated in Brimfield where she graduated from Brimfield High School in 1972. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1976 with a degree in special education. She received her master's degree in education from St. Xavier University in 2011.
Marsha married Donn Damos in North Henderson on April 28, 1984, and he survives.
Marsha was a devoted special education teacher with the Knox-Warren Special Education Co-Op. She taught at all grade levels throughout her career, with the majority of her time spent at the junior and senior high school level.
Her main interests were her family and friends. During her six-year battle with cancer, she was surrounded by loving family and friends. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a strong, loving, funny and courageous person who never complained about the hand dealt to her. She was selfless and self-sacrificing in her six battles with cancer.
Some of her happiest times were on the many adventures she planned for her daughters and grandson. She loved planning trips and experiences for them, wanting her girls to experience as much of the world as possible. The educator in her wanted to take advantage of any teachable moment that could offer personal enrichment for her family.
She attended Northwoods Church in Peoria.
Her family includes her husband, Donn of North Henderson; three daughters, Sarah Hayes, Anna Damos and Rachel Damos; her mother, Marjorie McDonough of Brimfield; one grandson, Jace Hayes; three brothers, Chuck McDonough of Peoria, Tom McDonough of Brimfield and Dan McDonough of Morton; and one sister, Jean (Bill) Kenney of Peoria; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Faith Baptist Church, 1247 South Farnham St., Galesburg, with the Rev. Curt Lipe officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, where family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be left for Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped in Morton.
