Michael Hurley Obituary

CORDOVA - Michael Sean Hurley, 61, died Monday, June 8, 2020, at his home in Cordova.

The family will greet friends with an outdoor visitation at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020. Those wishing to view Mike will be allowed into the funeral home in small groups of 10 or fewer.

Michael was born June 16, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, to Daniel F. and Joanne Parmantier Hurley, who preceded him in death. He married Susan Elaine Williamson on Aug. 20, 1988. Together they have two children, Jessica Smith and Sean (Katelyn) Hurley, residing in Colorado, along with three grandchildren, Collin, Maxim and Bella. A private service will be held for the family.

In addition to his immediate family, Michael is survived by his sister, Kathy Busco; nephews Jeffrey and Scotty; sisters-in-law Marilyn (Gary) Holt and Marsha (Mark) Wilson; and nephews and nieces Megan, Nick, Nathan, Hannah and Kristen.

Michael graduated from Liverpool NY High School in 1976. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1980 and his MBA from Western Illinois University in 1994. He was an All-American swimmer at Liverpool and University of Iowa. He cherished his years on the swim team, carrying many memories with him.

Throughout his career he worked as a controller for Protexall, Golden Seed Co. and Dohrn Transfer. He also served on Cordova's fire board.

He will be remembered as a fun-loving, intelligent and kind man who always had something witty to say. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago professional sports teams. Mike and Susan were the best of friends, enjoying 32 beautiful years together. He loved drinking Miller Lite with his buddies at the bar.

Memorials may be sent to Liverpool Central School, Liverpool, New York, or to the University of Iowa Swimming Program.

Mike, I have great memories growing up with you from swim lessons to daily softball, football ,basketball, and poker games. I never won in ping pong and you were in another league in the pool. What a great friend and teammate. You'll be sorely missed and my deepest sympathies go out to your family.
