Patrick Mackey Obituary

DANVILLE, Iowa - Patrick Terrence Mackey, 73, Danville, died at 8:37 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born April 27, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, he was the son of John W. and Clarice T. VanCamp Mackey. On June 24, 1967, he married Carolyn Jean Busby in Galesburg, Ill.
Pat retired from 3M Business Products and then worked for the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department.
He attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School and later St. Ambrose University.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1962 until 1966, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War, and was stationed in Okinawa and Korea. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 568, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League 616, where he was serving as commandant. He served as a member of the Danville School Board and was a longtime volunteer and past fire chief of the Danville Fire Department. He was an avid shooter and was a Civil War buff. He enjoyed scuba diving and working in his shop.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, David Mackey of Danville, and Jonathan (Jeniffer) Mackey of Newalla, Okla.; two daughters, Karin Mackey-Danz of Mediapolis, and Andrea (Todd) Humphries of O'Fallon, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Patrick, Rachel, Brittney, Olivia, Elizabeth, Michael, Aidan, Carissa, Joseph, Grant, and Bryce; six brothers, Fred Mackey of Maryland, Jack Mackey of Galesburg, Ill., Dennis Mackey of Machesney Park, Ill., Tim Mackey of Galesburg, Ill., Jerry Mackey of Denver, Colo., and Mike Mackey of Beverly Hills, Fla.; six sisters, Kathleen Elliott of Rockford, Ill., Alice Cutts of Galesburg, Ill., Margie Meldrum of Crystal Lake, Ill., Mary Jo Camper of Woodbury, Minn., Lori Shepherd of Knoxville, Ill., and Therese Gordon of Coal Valley, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Mackey will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, with Rev. Father David G. Steinle as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parrish Center following burial. Thielen Funeral Home, Burlington, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for SS. Mary and Patrick Church and the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League.
