Roger A. Schultz

1921 - 2009

BOWEN - Roger A. Schultz, 87, Bowen, passed away peacefully at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009, surrounded by his family at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Mr. Schultz was born at his parents' home in Birnamwood, Wis., on Dec. 17, 1921. He was born the son of the late August and Minnie Schultz.

Mr. Schultz served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Germany where he was responsible for driving an armored infantry truck. While in Germany, he was injured and was later awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Schultz met Marjorie Cunningham in Augusta, Ill., upon his return from the service. He stepped off the train, in uniform and it was love at first sight. They were united in marriage the following year Feb. 14, 1947, in the parsonage of the Christian Church in Quincy. They were married for 62 wonderful years.

Mr. Schultz was a meat cutter at Mecum's Grocery in Bowen for 36 years and at the Red Fox in Augusta for 10 years. Mr. Schultz served as mayor of Bowen for eight years. He attended Bowen Christian Church.

Mr. Schultz enjoyed raising his daughters and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed grilling for Sunday family dinners.

Surviving are his loving wife Marjorie of Bowen; daughters Pam (Joe) Gaskill of Abingdon, Debra (Carman) Moormann of Gainesville, Ga., and Susan Schultz of Chicago. He was the adored grandfather of Amy (Kevin) Daniels, Andrea (Jeff) Moore, Krista (John) Miscevich, Kurt (Danon) Moormann and Kraig (Courtney) Moormann; great-grandfather to Ashley, Spencer, Elise, Wesley, Dylan, Danyn, Dane, Kristen and Kendra; stepgreat-grandfather to Ramsey, Riley and John Jr; dear brother to Carol Rollins of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Minnie Schultz; sisters Martell Umland and Loretta Leider; and one daughter, Marla Schultz.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Bowen Christian Church with inurnment to follow in Bowen Abbey. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Bowen Christian Church or the Veteran's Memorial Fund in Bowen. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
