Daniel A. "Danny" Nelson, Sr., 79, a lifelong resident of West Hartland, CT, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Life Assisted Living Facility in Dedham, MA. He was the son of the late William Nelson, Sr., and Dorothy (Thompson) Nelson. He was the husband of the late Patricia A (Sullivan) Nelson.
Danny was educated in local schools and he was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical High School, in Torrington, CT. After high school, Danny owned/operated an auto mechanic garage and filling station in Riverton, CT. He later sold his business and began working at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT, starting as a Car Mechanic, and eventually running a maintenance department as a General Foreman. He retired from there after more than 30 years, and in later years he managed to keep himself busy as a handyman who enjoyed performing a variety of odd jobs. Danny loved his home and he most enjoyed working around his house and the yard, and spending time with friends. In later years, he enjoyed spending the Winter months playing golf in Barefoot Bay/Brevard County, FL.
Danny is survived by his son Daniel A. Nelson, Jr., and husband Joseph Castro of Boston, MA, and his daughter Brenda L. Nelson and husband Kevin Terhune of Green Valley, AZ; a brother, Russell Nelson and wife Claire of New Hartford, CT and his sister-in-law Joyce Nelson of Colebrook, CT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings William Nelson, Jr., Lois Arthur, and Barbara Gahura.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at West Hartland Cemetery, corner of Center St. and West St., on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life to follow at 12 o'clock at the Hartland Public Library, 61 Center St., West Hartland, CT 06091.
