Janet Thompson Obituary

Janet Lenore Thompson
March 22, 2021
Janet Lenore Thompson, 73, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, passed away March 22, 2021 at Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon after bravely facing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Janet loved and served her community all her life. She studied the Bible daily and taught it to others through her daily actions, attentive listening, and wise counsel. She enjoyed learning about God's love in Bible Study Fellowship, and taught Sunday School for years at Trinity Lutheran Church. She immersed herself in motherhood, supporting her children full-time along with their friends, classmates, and teammates. She fostered relationships as a welcoming hostess and took pride in baking, cooking, and sharing with others. Whether she was spending time with her friends or caring for those in need, she did it with joy and a fresh coat of lipstick. Janet frequently wrote thoughtful notes of thanks and encouragement, and her annual Christmas card was written in rhyming couplets. She loved the outdoors, gardening, the river, flowers, birds, skiing, hiking, art, books, and music. Janet's heart was joyous, and her infectious laughter and smile warmed the hearts of all in her sphere.
Janet was born June 2, 1947 in Portland, Oregon, to Carl and Lena (Overlund) Froude and graduated from Tigard High School. She earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon School of Nursing (OHSU), and a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Michael Thompson, and her mother and father, Lena and Carl Froude.
Janet is survived by her sister Karen Hall; brother Craig Froude & wife Stephanie; son Ryan Thompson & wife Amy; daughter Sarah Riznyk & husband Nicholas; son Sam Thompson & wife Rosalie; grandchildren Morgan, Sophia, Emma, Jacob, Noa, Hannah, Jack, and Madeline. And many other dear family and friends.

I was recently was looking though my old high school yearbook and kept noticing Janet's BIG smile and crinkling eyes in every picture she was in!

She was a special light in my life and probably didn't even know it. So, I googled her to say hi and found her smiling in this obituary instead...

Too young. A loss for many I'm sure. And, I'm really sorry I did not get to say goodbye to her.

Besides her fabulous smile, I remember what an excellent and compassionate listener she was. It sounds like she used her gifts for the better throughout her life.

God bless.

I knew of the Thompson family when we first moved to Cottage Grove in the late '80's. However, years later, I had the pleasure to speak and share with her when we were both in Bible Study Fellowship in Eugene. She was kind, God loving, soft spoken and positive. It was a pleasure to share some time with her. May God give her family peace at this difficult time. She is singing praises to our Lord now in eternal life.

I am so sorry we have lost Janet's light in this world. I remember her from many family gatherings as children. She was always smiling and made you feel loved. I will always remember how she made me feel. May God continue to bless Janet's Family and loved ones.

Janet's smile showed her heart.
Her kind ways brought happiness to many. My parents enjoyed her time with them.
