A commemoration of the life of Dr. Joan Acker, groundbreaking feminist scholar, professor of sociology at the University of Oregon, and founding director of the Center for the Study of Women in Society, will be held on Saturday, August 27 at Gerlinger Lounge on the University of Oregon campus, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Donations in Joan's memory can be made through the University of Oregon Foundation to one or more of three programs: Special Collections and University Archives (there will be an archive of her work), the Center for the Study of Women in Society for annual lecture in Joan's honor, csws.uoregon.edu/ackermemorial, and/or the Joan Acker Graduate Fellowship in the Department of Sociology.
