Kenneth Hatlelid Obituary
Ken was born on June 03, 1920 in Larson, North Dakota to Oscar and Mabel (Holmlie) Hatlelid. Ken married Frances Thompson on May 17, 1947 in Portland, Oregon. Frances passed away on July 11, 2001.
Ken served proudly in the United States Army in World War II with the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion. The 607th landed on Utah Beach in Normandy on June 13, 1944.
Ken worked for over 30 years for J H Baxter & Company in Eugene. He was a skilled woodworker, and enjoyed sharing his skills with his friends, his family, and his church. He built his home in 1952 with many custom features.
He was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eugene. He worked tirelessly building, maintaining, and repairing the church property. He loved mowing on his John Deere tractor mower.
Ken is survived by his daughter Janice Stafek (Thomas McMullen), son Tim Hatlelid (Carla), grandson Michael Stafek (Kimberly), step-grandchildren Zack Fischer and Disney Fischer, and great-grandchildren Logan Stafek and Paige Stafek.

I delivered Meals on Wheels to Ken for the last couple years. To say he was an inspiration is an understatement. I will miss my weekly visits with him.

Kenny was our next door neighbor for 20 years. He was always there for us, asking if we needed help, even in his eighties and nineties. Several years ago, in his mid- nineties, he came over to our house with a shovel to help spread gravel we had delivered to our back yard! Kenny lived alone after his wife passed away and, although his family and friends would have gladly helped, he insisted on doing all of his own yardwork. We really miss seeing him working around his property and sitting at the table near his large picture window. He was the best neighbor and a wonderful person.
