Matthew Saul Obituary

"Matt" Saul was born July 27, 1981 in Eugene, OR to Jim and Lynette Saul. As a consummate athlete Matt excelled in soccer first with the South Eugene Strikers and later when he achieved a varsity letter with the Axemen. Matt went on to pursue a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Puget Sound and became a member of Beta Theta Pi. Matt was happiest in the outdoors and he could weasel a fish out of the driest stream or hike to the highest peak with a smile on his face. We will best remember Matt for his open heart, unrequited love, and ability to make a friend a part of his family with a huge hug that only he could master. A plaque that we can all remember Matt with will be placed at the Masonic Cemetery Scattering Wall.

Dear Lynette and Michael,

I just learned the news about Matt. Sadness and shock are all I'm feeling right now. I remember Matt so well from both Elinor St. and the french school. He was such a sweet third grader. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers for months to come.

Love, Karen Duncan

Dear Lynette,
I was shocked and saddened to read Matthew's obituary in today's paper. I am so sorry. I emailed my son Peter (who was in your fourth grad class and a friend of Matthew's). I don't know if he and Matthew had kept in touch, but I am sure Peter will be saddened by this news. My thoughts are with you.

Lynette and Michael,
So sorry to read Matt's obituary this morning. Drove by your house on Elinor last week and thought about him and you and that it had been a long time since I had seen either of you. Brought back fond memories of soccer. He was a great athlete and a wonderful guy. I hope you will find comfort in those good memories. Let me know if there is anything any of us associated with South Eugene Strikers can do. He was a very special young man.
Sincerely,
Shannon Roseta
