Phyllis Edsall Obituary

Phyllis Louise

(Eicher) Edsall

August 28, 1932 -

May 9, 2017

Phyllis Edsall passed away peacefully on May 9th surrounded by family at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon. She was born in Pettisville, Ohio to Andrew Cyrus and Cora Elizabeth (Lantz) Eicher. As a child, her family settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana by way of Bryan, Ohio. Although her roots were Mennonite, she became a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and remained a devout Lutheran for the remainder of her life. She attended Northside High School in Fort Wayne and received a degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management from West Valley College in Saratoga, California. She married her husband, Richard Edsall, after high school where they had met, and eventually settled in Los Gatos, California where they raised their three children. In 2003, they moved to Reno, Nevada where they enjoyed many years with old friends and made many new friends. In the Summer of 2016, they moved to Eugene, Oregon, where they continued to make new friends at Cascade Manor.

Phyllis and Richard loved to travel the world, attend symphonies and operas, and seldom missed a high school reunion in Fort Wayne. Phyllis also loved spending time at the lakes near Angola, Indiana where she would host family get-togethers and reunions with high school friends. She volunteered her time at Village House whose proceeds benefitted Ming Quong Childrens Home in Los Gatos. She was a member of PEO in both Los Gatos and Reno. Because her greatest love was her family, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard Edsall and three grown children and their spouses: Eric and Jean Ann Edsall of Eugene, Oregon; Gary and Stephanie (Edsall) Miller of Woodland, California; and Brian and Jennifer (Edsall) West of Graeagle, California. She has six beautiful grandchildren: Rich and Megan (West) Green, Matthew West, Samantha Miller, Tony Miller, Deirdre Edsall and Andrew Edsall; and three great-grandchildren, Zoey, Isabelle and Lukas Green. She is also survived by her sister and her sister's husband Devon and Carol (Eicher) Simon of Venice, Florida and by her sister-in-law Lucille (Edsall) Secrist of New England in the Northeastern United States.

She is preceded in death by three sisters and their spouses: Raymond and Berneice (Eicher) Delancey, Don and Doris (Eicher) Batson, and Robert and Marilyn (Eicher) Lambert.

She lived a full life and spread joy to all she touched with her beautiful smile, kind disposition and loving heart.

On October 17, 1989 I was driving home from work when the Loma Prieta Earthquake hit. I very scary time for me. Hwy 17 was closed due to slides. I couldn't get home to my family in Santa Cruz. Phillis and Dick saw me in panic mode by a pay phone and kindly took me into their home. They were lifesavers! I have never forgotten how kind and wonderful they were. I think of them often (just about any time we have a significant movement of ground)and am sorry to learn Phyllis has passed on. She will be missed by many, I'm sure. My best to Dick. -Barbara Senft [email protected]

Dearest Phyllis was one of my first friends in Reno and when we found we shared a 'sisterhood' in PEO, she became a dear sister. So many memories shared in PEO but also over the bridge table with Dick and friends - birthday parties - wine at Town Center - all were made more special with Phyllis in attendance. She was a beautiful and special woman and will be missed by everyone who knew her. My deepest sympathies to Dick and her family.
Lovingly with fond memories, Leslie Craighead
