Raymond Barnhart Obituary

Raymond Jesse Barnhart
October 13, 1954 - March 5, 2021
Born in Michigan to Ray and Wilma Barnhart, Jess was the oldest of six children. A Navy veteran, he served overseas in Taiwan, the Philippines, and throughout Indonesia.
In 1975, Jess met his beloved Dee-Dee Harwell, married her, and five years later migrated his young family to Springfield, Oregon.
Jess founded Barnhart's Better Ideas, and used splendid talent to delight the neighborhood, the community, and the region. Folksy, honest, stubborn, and lovable Jess raised his family in the Willamette Valley where his skill was sought after for projects including specialty customized work in some of the county's finest homes. We envied his extensive knowledge and his incorruptible integrity.
Jess loved HELPING and always found a solution for anyone's problem. His heart was huge, and he was shy. He loved his family, and he worked hard for them. He was polite, awkward, and respectful. Quiet, introspective, always busy.
Jess is with Dee-Dee now, after waiting to join her in Eternity. We are smarter and better from having Jess with us, and his wisdom and experience will be dearly missed. He is survived by his two children, Jason Barnhart and Dawn Mehlert of Springfield. He has three grandchildren: Steph, Liam, and Zachary. A private service has been planned for family.

Jess did many things for us beside building a large part of our home place. He did not work for us, we worked together to turn wood, nails and creativity into special things, our house, barn, shop, spa, tree house and more all met Jess´s exacting standards. He sometimes helped us when the wind or weather caused problems and we hope we helped him when his times were tough. Recently he built two cedar chests from a tree on our place to keep treasures, including our memory of Him. The covid curse separated us, not much else might have...
