Steven Bergstrom Obituary

Steven A. Bergstrom

November 20, 1956 -
July 6, 2017

Steven Alan Bergstrom passed away July 6th, 2017 at the age of 60, after a brave year-long fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Born in Springfield, Oregon to parents Orville and Ethel Bergstrom, he graduated from Thurston High School in 1975. Following high school, he worked nights at Weyerhaeuser while completing his degree in Human Physiology and Sports Movement from the University of Oregon. He then went on to work at Excel Sports Science as the V.P. of Sales and Marketing for over 20 years.

Health and Fitness was not just a career for him but a lifestyle as well. A lifelong athlete, he began playing sports in school, and then went on to be a two-time marathon runner and triathlete. He was passionate about college football and was a lifelong Duck fan. As a season ticket holder for over 30 years, he traveled to several bowl games and the National Championship. He also loved fishing, skiing, golfing and traveling with his family. Professionally, he traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe. In his personal life, he loved vacationing in Maui, Palm Springs, and the Caribbean with his wife, Julie. From the age of 16, he had a dream to one day own a Corvette. Finally in 2013, he fulfilled that dream and spent many happy days cruising in it, or his beloved GMC pickup, "Big Blue."

He was kind, compassionate and always had a positive outlook on life. Although he was laid back, he was goofy and silly, always teasing his friends and family with new nicknames and quoting lines from Seinfeld. His motto was always, "Don't sweat the small stuff." He remained optimistic and positive throughout his entire battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Julie, daughter Jordan and husband Avery, grandson Archie, youngest daughter Jenna and husband Lucas, and his best buddy, Jack (yellow lab); Siblings: Bette, Karen, Ken, Judi and Jill.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 23rd, 2017 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 3528 Gateway St. in Springfield, from 1pm- 4pm. In lieu of flowers and gifts, please consider donating to Greenhill Humane Society or American Cancer Society; two causes Steve was passionate about.

My sympathy to Julie and family. I first met
Steve when he was a busy 5 year old. I was
his sister in-law for 20+ years. Steve was like one of my children, we took him camping whenever we could and attended
lots of football games. Farewell #15.

I have so many great memories with Steve as far back as early grade school. Making up nicknames of kids and teachers. He was always a crack up. Lots of good times. He definitely set the bar high.

Julie, Jordan and Jenna how blessed you were to have such a wonderful husband and father. He leaves behind so many loving memories to comfort you during a very difficult time and to treasure for a lifetime.
Julie we enjoyed the time we spent with you and Steve watching our girls play Webfoot volleyball. Steve was so full of love and kindness. He truly was in his element emersed in sports, especially when it was his daughter participating.

I was comforted in knowing that he was blessed with the marriage of both girls and with the birth of his first Grand baby! Good job Steve.
I share in your heartbreaking loss and will pray for everyday to bring a little more sunshine back into your lives.
Hugs, Cindy Backlund (Bassford)

Julie and family, I hope that God holds your Hearts during this extremely difficult time. I can not imagine how you feel.....Steve was such a wonderful person and friend to so many. He will be missed. Bergie as I alway's called him was just a kid when I meant him at Briggs Middle School. I enjoyed Briggs and Thurston with Steve.
He was a great athlete and so funny on many occasions. He used to tell jokes that I laughed so hard at it
made my face hurt. May God let all of his memories see you through this time and all of the years to follow.
You are in my prayers. Cynthia Schnee Howard

Dan and I will forever cherish and honored to be not only neighbors, but true friendship with the "Bergies" how lucky are we to have had almost 20 years of our lives shared in one way or another. We have had so many laughs and great conversations over the "fence". We have shared our love for animals, and comforted each other when we lost them. Steve's heart for animals was huge. One of our best memories is saving the kitten stuck under the tunnels under ground. The lengths Steve and Dan took to save that baby kitten was amazing. Melts my heart ❤....Steve had such good humor...He also was the kind hearted person to step up when he saw a need to help. When Dan had major back surgery, it was in the fall season, Steve was the first one out there racking our leaves and mowing our lawn.....we have so many memories like these I could go on.....Julie, my heart absolutely breaks for you and the girls. You and Steve are and will forever be soul mates. You were just the perfect fit for each other. You made a beautiful life together, and Legacy lives on through Jordan, Jenna, and Little Archie....and God knows the rest of your legacy to come! We love you, and we are here for you Julie....please do not hesitate to ask if you need anything.....again, we are saddened and can not put into words how much we will miss Steve. God has a plan, we must trust this and believe Steve is in a very very amazing place.....from our hearts to yours.....the "Hoisingtons" D&M
