Carol Palomba Obituary

Carol A. (Speck) Palomba
Carol Ann (Speck) Palomba, 85, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. She was a devoted wife to the late Nicholas Joseph Palomba, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many.
Born in Torrington, CT on December 22, 1939, Carol was the daughter of the late Anthony J. Speck and Margaret T. (Burke) Speck. A 1957 graduate of Torrington High School, Carol met the love of her life while working in the ticket booth at The Warner Theatre. Their love story began sweetly, swiftly leading to marriage and the start of their family in Waterbury, CT.
As a nurturing mother, Carol put her children first, but as they grew older, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Kaynor Technical School in 1980 and went on to serve Connecticut with compassion and dedication for over 22 years.
Carol had a deep love for family and community. She volunteered on many town and veteran committees.
She enjoyed summers at her second home on Highland Lake. Always the life of the party, she welcomed everyone with open arms, from the Palomba family reunions to cookouts with her children's friends.
A lifelong learner, Carol was an avid reader and self-taught in the arts of quilting, crocheting, crafting, and knitting. She created and donated numerous Quilts of Valor. Carol found great joy in cooking and baking. Through every dish and handmade gift, she passed down cherished traditions to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her three children: Beth Radcliffe of Ocala, FL; Lois Laigle (Richard) of Torrington, CT; and Nicholas John Palomba (Valarie) of Ormond Beach, FL. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Lynda Sabat (Michael) of Brecksville, OH; former son in law, Robert Clough of Winchester, CT; her grandchildren Joshua, Amber, Ashley, Leah, Nicole, Tanya, Michael J, and especially Courtney, with whom she shared many adventures. In addition, she leaves behind her great-grandchildren; Kayden, Sloan, Reese, and JP; and her twin brother, John Speck (Joan) of Maryville, TN.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Speck and her sister, Susan Clark.
A private service will be held at a later date.
In her honor, please raise a glass of wine with two ice cubes (her evening ritual). Cheers to a life well lived and deeply loved.

I am so sorry to see this news and my deepest sympathy to the family. She was my Girl Scout leader at Bunker Hill School. She taught me to sew! I was terrible at it, but she was so patient. Godspeed, Mrs. P!

So many happy memories water skiing, playing, & swimming up at Highland Lake. Carol was a wonderful cook and included me so I always felt like family. So sad to hear she has passed.
