GOSHEN – Claudette Marie Shattuck, 78, passed away unexpectedly on January 30, 2026, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
She was born in Albertson, NY, on February 12, 1947, a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Martin) Audevart.
Claudette was raised in Mineola, NY and graduated from Dominican High School in 1965 and from St. John's University in 1969.
Claudette married her high school sweetheart, Charles "Skip" Shattuck on July 20, 1969, and they moved to Goshen in 1970. For forty years, Claudette and Skip enjoyed their time together at their home in Goshen, as well as their travels to Europe, Hawaii, and their many repeated trips to Aruba, Montauk, and Key West.
A devoted middle school science teacher in the Litchfield School District for 33 years, Claudette was passionate about her teaching. Even after retiring in 2003, she kept in touch with many of her former students.
When not teaching, Claudette enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially gardening with her sister, Carol, camping with her brother, Jack, and with the friends she made during her teaching career and when socializing at AJ's Restaurant in town.
She loved to fly with Skip in his airplane, and on those occasions when she wasn't in the cockpit beside him, she would watch for him to dip the plane's wing whenever he flew over their home on Allyn Road.
Claudette will be missed for her kind heart, her quick wit, and her devotion to those she loved.
She was grateful for the care she received from her dedicated aides, which allowed her to remain in her own home.
Claudette is survived by her niece, Donna Marie Audevart of Rock Springs, WY; nephews, Peter Charles Audevart of Rock Springs, WY and Michael James Audevart and wife, Christeen; great-nephews, Michael and Benjamin; her dear friends and neighbors, Denise Cloutier and Darlene Membrino of Goshen; dear friend, Kim Upson of New York; and cousins, Nancy Moran and Sharon Graham of Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Carol Ann Audevart; brother, John "Jack" Audevart; and former husband, Skip Shattuck.
A graveside service to be held in May at Center Cemetery, Goshen, will be announced at a later date.
