Cynthia O'Connell Obituary

Cynthia O'Connell
August 28, 1935 - June 28, 2025
Cynthia Anne O'Connell (Baxter) passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28th, 2025. The daughter of Majorie (née Rigney) and Edward Baxter, Cynthia was born on August 28th 1935, in Waterbury and raised along with her sisters in Naugatuck. A graduate of Naugatuck High School class of 53', Cynthia went on to earn a degree in Biology at Saint Elizabeth University and work for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, New York. She and her late husband of 41 years, Thomas O'Connell, settled in Blauvelt, New York where they raised their family. In 1992 Cynthia and Tom retired and became permanent residents on Lake Zoar in Southbury. She loved her family and took very good care of them all. Cynthia also loved adventure and was always on the move. From the Nordic Sea and the Mayan ruins to the Grand Ole' Opry in Tennessee, Cynthia loved experiencing what this world had to offer. Cynthia was outgoing and loved bringing people together for a good time, just ask anyone who attended one of her legendary Fourth of July parties on the lake. Cynthia's Catholic faith was important to her and a great source of comfort after the passing of her husband in 2000.
Besides her parents and husband Thomas, Cynthia was predeceased by her sister Marcia and brother-in-law Orlando "Fred" Cornacchio, sister-in-law Eilene (O'Connell) and husband Paul Perdick, her grandson Christopher O'Connell and son Daniel O'Connell. She is survived by her sister Brenda and husband Mike Murphy, children Mary Norris and her husband Chris of Southbury, her son Edward O'Connell of Southington and Robert O'Connell and his Fiancée Ellen of North Port. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Theresa, Amy, Erin, Thomas and Ryan, his wife Ginni and two great grandchildren Violet and Patrick O'Connell, as well as many nieces and nephews.
