David Fredsall Obituary

David J. Fredsall
HARWINTON – David J. Fredsall, 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 17, 2026.
David was born on March 31, 1953 in Torrington, son of the late Irving and Antoinette (Lampognana) Fredsall. He was a lifelong resident of Harwinton and graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School in 1971.
A skilled mechanic, fabricator, and commercial driver, David could build, repair, or figure out just about anything. Over the years he held many roles, including working alongside his brother John at JODA Excavation and serving as a mechanic for the Town of Harwinton.
He was an avid reader with a deep interest in politics. He never shied away from a spirited conversation and was always ready to share his perspective.
David served for more than 53 years as a dedicated and hands-on member of the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department. Along with responding to emergency calls as a firefighter and firetruck driver, he frequently worked behind the scenes, leading repair projects and making sure equipment and the firehouse were always well maintained. He was responding to calls and putting in work at the firehouse right up until just hours before his passing.
David was the go-to problem solver for family and friends, whether it was fixing a piece of equipment, fine-tuning a Pinewood Derby car, or tackling automotive or home repairs. If something needed to be created or fixed, David was the one you called. He would show up, tools in hand, ready to help. He was generous with his time, skills, and expertise, never expecting anything in return.
At home, he could often be found working on projects in his shop. He enjoyed the company of his white Maine Coon cat, Nora Skyler, and his favorite treats – Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Girl Scout Cookies.
David will be remembered for his skill, reliability, strong opinions, and willingness to lend a hand. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, and quiet generosity.
He is survived by his brothers, Roger Fredsall and his wife Marcia of Richmond, Maine, and John Fredsall and his wife Cynthia of Harwinton; five nieces, Katie Fredsall, Jeanie Fredsall Parker, Sally Fredsall Mecham, Kirsten Fredsall Piechota, and Angela Fredsall Bronn; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Donations in David's memory may be made to the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department, 158 Burlington Road, Harwinton 06791.

I am sorry your family's loss of David. The write up in his obituary, truly captures the essence of who David was. He was a good family friend to our family quite a few years ago... As with many things, the years go by and people lose touch. But I will never forget his kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity that he showed to my sons and to our family: as well as his commitment to the community by way of serving on the Fire Department. He truly was a unique person and a one-of-a-kind and will he be missed.
