Janice J. Sambuco
Mrs. Janice (Jannetty) Sambuco, 94, of Southbury, formerly a longtime resident of the East Mountain section of Waterbury, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Monday, September 15, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late Former Chief of Police Edward Sambuco.
Janice was born in Waterbury on October 2, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Errico) Jannetty. She was educated in Waterbury. She continued to college and finished her studies with a Master's Plus degree in education. Her teaching career started at Wendell L. Cross Elementary School, B.W. Janice was an avid reader and gardener. She enjoyed mystery stories, historical dramas, and British TV shows. Janice's generous spirit delighted most when she connected with family and friends, whether over coffee, tea, gatherings and meals shared. She loved taking scenic drives, shopping, attending museums, stage productions and traveling. She was very close to both her family and her husband's family throughout her life.
Janice leaves to honor and cherish her memory; a daughter, Daria S. Kiernan and her husband Steven of Woodbury; a sister, Serena Brown of Virginia; a grandson, Rick Sambuco of Pittsfield, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Edward, she was predeceased by; her son, Richard E. Sambuco; a brother, Michael Jannetty; and a sister, Jacqueline Dimo.
Janices's family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Pomperaug Woods for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Janice during her stay.

I was lucky enough to make Janice's acquaintance this past 18 months while visiting my father at Pomperaug Woods. Her room was next to his and she always gave me a big hello. We soon discovered we both were avid mystery readers and loved British tv series, and it became my habit to seek her out for a quick word whenever I was in the health center. She was quick witted and decisive and fair minded and I was not surprised to learn she was a retired school principal. She always had a compliment and a smile for me. Returning from a two week vacation in England (I looked forward to telling her I had been to an Inspector Morse pub in Oxford) I was very sorry to learn she had passed while I was away (on my Mom's birthday, as it would turn out). I send my sympathy to the family and close friends she leaves behind. Janice was an amazing lady and she will be missed.
