Marlene Sorvillo Obituary

Marlene Sorvillo
September 25, 2025
Marlene Sorvillo, 83, of Torrington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, in Naples, Florida.
Born in Torrington on August 9, 1942, Marlene was the treasured daughter of Frances and Charles Petrosky and the beloved wife of the late John Sorvillo. She graduated from Torrington High School and Central Connecticut State University, later building a long career with the Torrington Public School system.
To know Marlene was to feel her warmth, laughter, and light. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cherished, whether it was through a home-cooked meal, a kind word, or simply her sunny presence. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a grandmother who adored every moment with her grandchildren. Her family and friends will remember her not just for what she did, but for the joy she brought into every room.
Marlene lived life to the fullest. As a full-time Florida resident, she filled her time with many friends, often hosting her book club, card group and was captain of her bocce team-a role she embraced with spirit and enthusiasm.
Her grandchildren's favorite memories of Grandma: Decorating her home and making Christmas magical, hosting poolside cookouts in Torrington filled with laughter, highly competitive Dominoes games, her hunt for the perfect lobster and clams, fun in the sun at Long Beach Island and Cape Cod, her famous "blueberry buckle".
Above all, Marlene's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her children and their spouses: Charlene (Kevin) O'Connell, Debra (Matt) Gallagher, Marcia (Brian) Thomas, and Michael (Karen) Sorvillo. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Madison and Paige O'Connell, Andrew Sorvillo, Olivia Gallagher, and Brooke and Connor Thomas.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marlene's life at St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (goredforwomen.org) or The Warner Theatre (warnertheatre.org).
Marlene's legacy is one of love, family and kindness. Her memory will live on in the traditions she created, the friendships she nurtured, and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
