WOODBURY- Ryan Wesley Schmid, 38, endearingly known as "Schmiddy" by peers, passed away suddenly at his home in Woodbury, CT on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Born November 25, 1986, to Carol (Descoteaux) and Wesley Schmid he was educated at Polk School in Oakville and in Region 14 attending Woodbury Middle School and Nonnewaug High School where he participated on the golf team. He was an avid gamer and fan of NASCAR, NFL, MLB and college basketball, though golf was his first love. He was sharp, passionate, intelligent, loving and loyal.
Ryan leaves his parents and his brother, Tyler (Jessica Tracy-Meyers) of Bethlehem. He is also survived by his nephews Wyatt and Sawyer Ives and Layton and Caylor Schmid all of Bethlehem, among them he shared a uniquely close connection with the youngest two and he said, "they brighten my day". They especially cherished their "Mim and Pop days," when they could spend time with Uncle Ryan, creating memories to be treasured forever. Even the simple joys of sharing his chair and watching a game or show became extraordinary because they were filled with his love, attention and presence. He also leaves his loving aunts, uncles and cousins behind.
His grandparents, Bill and Arlene Descoteaux and Arthur and Marion Schmid, whose love and guidance meant so much throughout his life, predeceased him.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, followed by burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
