Beloved Sister, Daughter and Friend, Respected Lawyer
Meriden, CT – Celia Eggert, 64, formerly of Granby, CT, passed away peacefully at Apple Rehab Coccomo in Meriden, CT after a prolonged illness on August 11, 2025.
Born on May 20, 1961, in Morristown, NJ, the daughter of the late George and MaryAnn Eggert of Bethlehem, CT., Celia grew up in Bethlehem, CT.
She was a part of the 1979 Nonnewaug High School graduating class in Woodbury, CT. She then went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in 1983 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also attended the University of Hartford where she obtained her MBA in 1990. She received her law degree from Western New England College in 2000.
Celia lived in Granby for almost 30 years. She served on the Granby Board of Assessors for several years. Before her retirement in 2020 she was a respected trial attorney for Nationwide Insurance for over ten years. She was held in high regard by her colleagues and peers. Prior to her illness, Ms. Eggert loved playing the slots at the Connecticut casinos. She also enjoyed taking care of her house, reading, working on puzzles, watching mysteries and game shows and spending time with her cat, Scooby. She had many good times taking day trips with her sister and friends throughout New England. She also enjoyed travel to North Carolina and occasional trips to Europe.
She is survived by her sister, Dr. Christina Eggert of Naugatuck, CT and her beloved cat, Scooby. She is also survived by her cousin James Kingery of Cavendish, VT, her cousin Maureen Castro of Woodbine, MD, her Aunt Lois Hornbostel and Uncle Charles Hornbostel of North Carolina and several cousins throughout the East Coast.
Celia leaves behind many close friends – among them Tony Santocroce of Burlington, CT; Kate Allsup of Trumbull, CT; Krissy Baker from PA: Trisha Cox from MO and her former neighbor, David Guay of Granby, CT who were all a significant help to the family and provided great comfort to her during her illness. Special thanks to private speech therapist and family friend, Dr. Shawneen Buckley of Granby, CT.
The family would like to thank River Glen Health Center for their care of Celia in 2020, PAFY Inc, Seniorbridge and Prime Healthcare at her home from 2021 until early 2023. The family would also like to thank Apple Rehab Coccomo for their care of Celia from early 2023 until the end of her life.
Services will be private. Celia will be interred in the family plot at Carmel Hill Cemetery in Bethlehem.

American Heart Association or a pet rescue organization of choice.
