Michael Larsen Obituary

Our beloved son and brother, Michael George Larsen, 51, passed away in Alaska on May 2. Mike was born in California to Paul and Joy Larsen and moved to Colorado in 1971 with his family. He was christened as an infant by his grandfather with a fish over his bassinet and he started his life of fishing at the age of four. He grew up in the foothills west of Loveland and enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and hiking. Mike attended school in Loveland and Estes Park and graduated from Thompson Valley in 1982. Mike was a Master Electrician for Skyline Electric for fourteen years before he left for the wilds of Alaska, where he charged head-first into new and exciting adventures that most of us could only dream of. Mike loved his career as the Operating Engineer for three commercial fishing boats. In the off-season, he worked in the town of Gustavus as an electrician and Jack of all Trades, earning the nickname "Mike-Gyver". Wherever he went, Mike lived on the edge, fully in control and never showing fear. He was a most respected and loved man, and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved sidekick Tank, his parents Paul and Joy Larsen of Loveland, sister Theresa (Craig) Fix of Millersville, PA, sister Janine (Mark) Rodriguez of Loveland, brother Lars (Stacy) Larsen of Fort Collins, friend Katherine "Keb" Brenson of Gustavus, AK, and step-children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. All are invited to join the family in sharing memories and stories at an Open House Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 21 from 1-6 PM at 453 West Fourth Street, Loveland, Co.

Not a day goes by we don't remember and miss our friend Mike. He was like a brother to us. So gifted. So tender-hearted.
Many don't know that our daughter Asia and I spoke to Mike a week before his passing. Mike had promised to come by us in Renton to help Asia and her husband Barry restore their newly purchased home - a refuge for Asia who has no immune system due to undergoing chemo and radiation treatment for leukemia and stem cell transplant. Mike's final emotion-filled words to Asia while she lay in the hospital were , "I love you, kiddo. Hang in there. I'll stop by on my way to my folks ' place to help you out. Promise." In her / our darkest hours, we call on Mike to rally the troops in heaven for miracles. All our love,
Norvie. Barbara and family

I could spend days writing about the adventures that Mike and I went on. I'm sure anybody who knew him could do the same. Mike brought that out in people. Everything was an adventure, you never sat still very long, and it was always a journey that at the age we were at the time, usually got us in some kind of trouble.

Mike was fearless, intelligent, reflective, honest, and most of all.....Real! I loved him like a brother.

My heart goes out to Paul and Joy, Lars, Theresa and Janine, and everybody else who's life was touched by Mike's spirit.

When I reach the world you are in now, I promise I'll head to the mountains. Maybe we'll run into each other
