Steve Ochoa Obituary

Steve Ochoa, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 18, 2022. One of his greatest accomplishments was achieving sobriety for 18 years. He beat cancer and finally received a long awaited liver transplant on May 19. After a courageous fight, he lost his battle due to complications. He left us far too young at the age of 63. During his life, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, sports, music, Charlie Brown "Elmer", Mohammed Ali and loved cheering on our Colorado sports teams, especially the Denver Broncos. He met his wife and soul mate of 44 years, Mel "Meldew" at the age of 10 at Monroe ES. Steve wooed Mel while impersonating "Teddy Bear" by one of his favorite icons, Elvis. Their fairy tale love blessed him with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. He was so grateful for his close-knit family and all the memories they made. Steve is survived by his wife: Melodee, children: Stephanie (Matt) McDonald, T.K. (Jimmy) Ochoa-Porter, and Blayne (Melanie) Ochoa; 6 grandchildren: Joslynn and Matthew Jones, Bailey, Autumn and Justin Porter, Bellemy Ochoa; sister: Cheryl Ochoa and brother: Richard Ochoa. Also survived by Mel and Delores Neal "Mom and Dad", Carla and Greg DeArmond and family, as well as many other family and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Humberto and Marcella Ochoa and his brother Robert Ochoa and grandparents. Graveside Service will be Tuesday, July 26 at 11:00am at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Reception to follow at the home of Steve and Mel. Steve was one of my students at Truscott! After all these years, I can still picture him and his striking, intense eyes. And he was sometimes very silly.....as were a lot of 7th grade boys `back in the day.´
I´m sending my hope for a sense of peace to all of you, as well as to his friends. Keep your memories of him alive and bright; he obviously was a good man who successfully met life´s challenges head on.

The the Ochoa family. So sorry to hear of your loss. Steve was a fantastic person. Always had positive things to say to make everyone he talked to feel good. A gentle giant for sure. Enjoyed seeing him and Deb at the softball fields! May God's grace bless you all.

We pray that peace surround the family at this time. Some of both our memories were in school, watching from the sidelines, one of the most popular couples in High School. What a love story and what a legacy left behind from that story!!! Although it's been years since we've seen Steve, I do remember at one class reunion, Steve treated us like old friends.
See you on the other side Steve!!! We will be holding you all up in prayer as you say your earthly goodbyes.

First my condolences to Mel and Blayne and the family. I have many fond memories of Steve going back to Monroe Elementary where Steve was the toughest kid in school, nobody messed with Steve. We had many football and baseball games together at Silver Lake park with Steve and his brothers, Donnie Campbell, Jim Morgan and the gang. But my best memories were spending 2 incredible summers coaching Blayne with Steve keeping our books and being a very proud papa. I know Steve loved every second of it as did I.
Blayne, I hope you will always keep those memories close, your father was a wonderful man.
