Donald Froid Obituary

Donald Keith Froid
Abilene

Donald Keith Froid, 67, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010, in Abilene. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South with entombment following at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Donald was born on July 15, 1943, in Ft. Lupton, CO, to proud parents Melvin W. and Verma May Froid. He lived in Ft. Lupton throughout his childhood where he graduated from high school. He eventually moved to Abilene and married the love of his life, Myrtie. He was a "people person" who loved spending time with family and friends. Donald enjoyed going on long drives with Myrtie to visit family or just to "get out" for a while. You could always find Donald watching old western classics or TV sitcoms while tossing the ball to his loving poodle Cooper. Donald was a hard worker. He worked for 13 years for the State of Colorado Highway Department. After moving to Texas he spent 8 years with the State of Texas Highway Department. He eventually ended up with the best job of them all serving 16 years as a prison guard at the Middleton Unit. He loved the "family feel" at the prison, even all the Sigmund Freud jokes. Donald wasn't born in Texas, but in his words, "he got here as soon as he could."
Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtie of Abilene; his son, Rodney Froid of Colorado; his two stepchildren, Ron Downing and Ronda Nelson and husband Donny, all of Abilene. He had 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his 3 brothers, Roland, Dale, and Lowell Froid; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all whom he loved dearly.
