H.M. "Jiggs" Nichols

Winter, TX

H.M. "Jiggs" Nichols, 97, of Winters, passed away April 28, 2016. He was born November 28, 1918 in Horn Hill, Texas. At the age of 10 he moved with his family to Sudan where he graduated high school in 1937. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy during World War 2. He married Ouida Rogers February 8, 1947 in Sudan. They moved to Winters in 1952. He farmed and was office manager for Winters Construction and later served as Winters Post Master for a number of years. He was a long time member of the Winters Country Club and Winters Lions Club. In 2104 he was recipient of the Winters I.S.D. Patriot Award. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ouida Nichols of Winters; 2 sons, Roger "Rusty" Nichols of Austin and Noel "Dusty" Nichols of Richmond, Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Travis Nichols and wife Karina, Brady Sloane and husband Sam and their Jennifer Nichols; 1 great-grandchild, Greyson Jiggs Sloane; 2 sisters-in-law, Wanda Rogers and Patsy Rogers; 5 nephews, Charlie Nichols, Mike Rogers, Don Rogers, Doug Rogers and Mark Rogers.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Northview cemetery directed by Winters Funeral Home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, your church or the Winters Public Library.

Jiggs was very special to John and I. He had a long and wonderful life and gave so much to all of us. He always made me smile and shared so much love .
