Jerry D. Files, 80, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, at Southern Hills Church of Christ Chapel directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will follow in McBee Cemetery.

Jerry was born in Gorman, Texas to the late Earl Files and Nancy Underwood Files on June 3, 1935. He married Betty Wright on October 24, 1954 in Abilene, Texas. They were married for nearly 61 years before Betty preceded him in death on August 14, 2014. Jerry was a retired butcher, having worked for Furr's Supermarket. He was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Barbara Braden and husband John of Abilene; sister-in-law, Charlotte Tutt and husband Jim of Abilene, nephews Cleve Tutt and wife Tresa, Kevin Tutt and wife Marci, niece Cristi Doty and husband Tim; brother-in-law, Ed Wright and wife Johnnie Sue of Lawn, niece JoDee Rideout and husband Craig, nephew Jordan Wright and wife Kristin. He is also survived by a number of great nieces and nephews.

Gifts and memorials may be mailed to the "Betty Files Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund" c/o Hendrick Medical Center Foundation, 1900 Pine Street, Abilene, TX 79601.
