Lorna Byers Obituary
Anson
Lorna Byers, 93, formerly of Anson, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at Countryside Nursing and Rehab in Pilot Point, TX. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug 4 at 10:00 AM at the Adams-Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Anson. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home.
Lorna was born August 1, 1924, in Morris, Minnesota, to Adolph and Viola (Baumgartner) Reimers. After graduating high school, she moved to Chula Vista, California, to live with two of her sisters. World War II was going on and she joined thousands of others who went into defense work. She was employed by the Rohr Aircraft Corp.
She married Grady Byers, August 26, 1944, and they moved to his home town of Winters in 1951. They moved to Anson in 1963 where she worked in the Anson Care Home for two years then enrolled in nursing school, graduating in 1968 as an LVN. She was employed as a nurse by the Anson Hospital for 27 years before retiring. She moved from Anson to Denton in 2010. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Anson Hospital Pink Ladies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady, two sisters and a brother.
She is survived by her son, Weldon Byers, Rapid City, South Dakota; her daughter, Dee Smith (Gayle), Denton; two grandchildren, Jason Smith (Patti), College Station, and Lezli Urlacher (David) Aurora, Colorado; three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Dorothy Maus, Lorraine Wade and Darlene Haak, all of Minnesota.
The family wishes to extend our gratitude to her many past friends and co-workers in the Anson area who brought so much joy into her life while she lived there and especially to her niece, Jean Tatom of Abilene, whose love and care was a great blessing to Lorna.
In lieu of flowers or cards, donations may be made to the Anson General Hospital Pink Ladies organization.
Visitation will be will be Saturday, August 4, 2018, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Adams-Graham Funeral Home.
