Billie Dory Obituary

Billie Louise Haines Dory

An amazing loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Friend joined her family in Heaven on April 14, 2020.

Our mother Billie was born in Tonopah, NV, May 29, 1932 to Ethel Brewer Haines Agnor & Douglas Haines. She was raised in Manhattan, NV along with her siblings, Miriam Marshall, Mary Edison(D.), Maggie Helming(D.), Bobby Haines(D.) and George Agnor. The family moved to Austin in September 1949.

Billie married Walter Dory(D.), in Austin, NV at St. George's Episcopal church in June 1950, they were married almost 60 years. They had four children: Ann McNeely (Rich), Rhonda McConnaughey (Eric), Jeri Lynn Dory(D.) and Robert Dory (Luz). She has 11 grandchildren and 16 (and one on the way) great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Spending time with her family was the joy of her life, from holidays to trips to the coast. Mom was our center.

Other than raising 4 children, Billie retired from the Lander County Sheriff's office after 23 years, she attended the police academy in Reno at UNR. We were so proud of her! She volunteered on the ambulance for many years, one of her favorite things was when she helped deliver babies in route to hospital. In her later years you could find Mom at the Senior Center for lunch where she would help out and deliver meals to shut-in's. Billie was also a member of the Eastern Stars, which was very important to her.

Mom adored her dog(s), during summer she would make a trip to the Toiyabe Drive-in/Cafe each day to get ice cream for her & the dog, which made them both happy.

Billie was quite accomplished in whatever she decided she wanted to do; be it sewing her crazy quilts (they are incredible and she loved making them for the special people in her life), crocheting, gardening and working jigsaw puzzles.

Billie loved music and still played the old records on her turntable, she also loved reading and collecting old books. At least once a week when the weather was good, her and Dad would head out to their favorite fishing hole, Mom could almost out fish anyone and was quite proud of that. They would supply fresh fish to anyone who wanted one.

We could go on forever how wonderful Mom was and loved by everyone she knew. We all will miss her…..

A memorial service will be held in Austin, NV this summer, date & location to be determined.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. George's Episcopal Church in Austin, NV in Billie's name.
